Few women lawyers can boast dual training in civil law and common law. Mariama Diallo, co-founding partner of DTB Avocats, is one of them. LL.L. from the University of Ottawa (2014) and a J.D. in North American common law from the Université de Montréal (2016), she was admitted to the Quebec Bar the same year. This combination gives him a legal vision that is both rooted in Quebec’s civil law traditions and open to the mechanisms of English-speaking law – an invaluable asset in cases with an interprovincial or international dimension.
Her practice philosophy is based on one guiding principle: each case deserves both a rigorous legal strategy and attentive listening. Me Diallo represents individuals, entrepreneurs and organizations in immigration, business law, civil and commercial litigation, and mediation. She appears before the Quebec courts and the IRB, and is also renowned for her work in small claims mediation, making access to justice a reality for a clientele often weakened by legal proceedings.
A mediator accredited by the Quebec Bar, she favors negotiated solutions when her clients’ interests allow – without ever abandoning the effectiveness of litigation when the situation demands it. This dual posture, both strategist of litigation and architect of consensus, characterizes his approach.
Beyond his practice, Me Diallo is actively involved in the legal community. She is Governor of the Next Generation at the Fondation du Barreau du Québec, a position that testifies to her investment in the future of the profession. It is also involved in Pro Bono initiatives, contributing to the collective effort to provide access to justice for the most vulnerable. She is a member of AQAADI and the Conférence Internationale des Barreaux (CIB).
Multilingual, she works in French, English and Peuhl, with some Spanish – a significant advantage in cross-cultural cases where the language barrier can turn a legal problem into a human standoff.
