Some career paths can’t be invented. The case of Aminata Ba, co-founder of DTB Avocats and a mediator accredited by the Quebec Bar, is a striking example. Born in Senegal into a family of jurists – her father is a lawyer – she spent part of her childhood accompanying him to the courthouse in Dakar, before following her family to Canada, at the age of 10, on a diplomatic mission.

It was in Montreal that she decided to build her life. She enrolled at the Université de Montréal in law, as a foreign student, and herself went through all the stages of the Canadian immigration system: study permit, work permit, permanent residence, citizenship. This path – which she now shares with her customers – is not anecdotal. It is at the heart of his practice.

Called to the Quebec Bar in 2018, Ms. Ba began her career with a major Montreal firm, developing multidisciplinary expertise, before taking a decisive turn: she co-founded DTB Avocats just a few months after completing her articling, with Me Mariama Diallo. A bold gamble, taken with conviction.

Her practice covers immigration and refugee law, business law, civil and commercial litigation, as well as civil, commercial and labour mediation. She represents her clients before the civil courts of Quebec and before the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB).

In 2024, the Bar of Montreal awarded him the “Figure de Maître” distinction , a distinction reserved for lawyers whose influence extends beyond the courtroom. And with good reason: Me Ba has been a member of the Education Committee of the Bar of Montreal since 2021, and is a member of the Young Bar of Montreal, the Association québécoise des avocats et avocates en droit de l’immigration (AQAADI) and the Conférence Internationale des Barreaux (CIB). She also volunteers with the Black Community Resource Centre (BCRC) and the O3 organization, which helps vulnerable mothers in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.

“Immigration law is not well known. Yet it’s a real practice. The stakes are so high for our customers. We help them restart their lives, often escaping danger. We help create active citizens who participate in our country’s economic development. – Me Aminata Ba, Bar of Montreal, December 2024
